Violin Faculty

Violinist Stephanie Skor is a graduate of the New England Conservatory where she studied with Nicholas Kitchen, first violinist of the Borromeo String Quartet. After performing in Boston for 15 years, she returned to her hometown of St. Paul, launched a busy freelance career in the Twin Cities, and became first violinist of the Lux String Quartet.

With Lux (luxstringquartet.com) Stephanie has performed in many concert series including the Schubert Club Courtroom Concerts and the Rochester Chamber Music Series. Lux has been featured as an MPR Class Notes Artist five times, is quartet-in-residence at the Colorado Chamber Music Institute, and in 2025 won First Prize in the Charleston International Music Competition.

Stephanie has enjoyed an eclectic freelance career – from concertmaster at the Rockport Chamber Music Festival to a U.S. tour with Jethro Tull. Her work in chamber music has included collaborations with such artists as Kim Kashkashian, Jorja Fleezanis, and the Pacifica Quartet. With symphonic orchestras she has had the great pleasure of working with many inspiring conductors such as Osmo Vänskä. Stephanie has performed with the Joffrey Ballet, the South Dakota Symphony, VocalEssence, the National Lutheran Choir, and is a member of Loyce Houlton’s Nutcracker Fantasy orchestra.

Passionate about 20th century and contemporary music, Stephanie has worked with dozens of living composers, premiered over 26 new works, and has even recorded music for video games. Stephanie’s interest in unique projects has taken her to Las Vegas, New York City, Luxembourg, the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Guanajuato, México, and performances on WGBH, MPR, TPT, and Newstalk (Ireland).

Stephanie loves to teach, sharing her passion for music and the violin. Infusing her Suzuki education with her extensive performance experience, she strives to build in her students not just excellent fundamentals, but a deep understanding of the music they are learning. Stephanie teaches the skills – and joys! – of performance, and believes in every student’s ability to communicate through music.
